GiveBackAI

Donate your unused Claude quota to open source.

Many Claude Max and Pro subscribers don't use their full quota before it resets. GiveBackAI lets you turn that idle capacity into real contributions — by pasting one prompt into Claude Code.

Paste this into Claude Code

Works in the CLI or claude.ai/code in the browser.

I'm contributing my Claude session to GiveBackAI (orzelig.github.io/givebackai). Please WebFetch https://orzelig.github.io/givebackai/run.md and follow those instructions exactly. Confirm with me before any destructive action, and abort if anything looks unsafe.

Make sure gh is authenticated (gh auth status) and you have ~30–45 minutes of quota to spare.

How it works

  1. You paste the prompt. Claude fetches run.md and reads you a disclosure before doing anything.
  2. You confirm your identity. Claude reads gh api user to know which GitHub account to credit. Nothing else identifies you.
  3. You pick a task. Claude shows you three open givebackai-ready issues from partner repos. You pick one — or none.
  4. Claude works under your account. It forks the partner repo to your GitHub, opens a branch, makes the change, runs the repo's tests if any, and opens a draft PR. You confirm before each destructive step.
  5. You get the credit. The PR's author is you. The footer credits you and links back here. It shows up on your contributor profile when merged.

What leaves your machine

Nothing leaves your machine besides GitHub API calls that your own gh is making. There is no GiveBackAI server. The instructions Claude follows are a static file in this public repo, and its hash is published at run.md.sha256 for byte-for-byte verification.

For maintainers — partner your repo

Two steps: add a label givebackai-ready to issues you've scoped well enough for an AI agent, then open a PR adding your repo to partners.yaml. A workflow asks you to confirm ownership with a comment and auto-merges. See the partner guide for the full pitch and how to scope a good task.
